Did electronic cigarette manufacturers lobby worldwide to introduce smoking bans, so that they could flood the market with their products?

How long have they been in the pipeline - in development, testing and awaiting FDA approval?

What a pity that they've been found to cause cancer - just like the fags they were intended to replace.
