Injustice: Wrongful convictions
The US has a massive number of incarcerated people as a ratio of the population - so much so that it has now become another "big issue".
So many people are convicted on the back of "junk science" by so-called experts that there is a growing belief that because jails are big business in the US, people are being hoovered up so that the prisons (quoted on the stock market, for heaven's sake!) can make more money out of them from taxpayers. Corruption, incompetence and sheer greed seem to run rife in the US.
Apart from the problem of a growing number of innocent people being incarcerated for 20 years plus, many more face the same sentence for "crimes" which are considered to be misdemeanours - under the 'right' circumstances.
If you think that this doesn't concern you, consider:
* the extradition treaties which exist internationally
* that people can be imprisoned without charge
* that the accused need not even be told that there's an arrest warrant out for them.
