New EU Police Chief suspected of corruption
Corruption being rife in the EU, is it any wonder that the soon-to-be EU Police chief is being investigated for corruption?
DeMorgen reports that the Belgian police officer who will preside over the executive board of the European Policy Academy (CEPOL) during the Belgian EU Presidency in 2010 is a corruption suspect. A Belgian police trade union is quoted saying: "apart from the corruption, he bears responsibility for a department that has been administered in a bad way for years".
The Brussels public prosecutor confirmed in 2008 that the Commissioner, who was responsible for telematics in the federal police, suspected of corruption, having enjoyed benefits in kind from a consultancy firm. The investigation is still ongoing.
