The Irish Vote on Lisbon tomorrow: some notable reads

hDeclan Ganley socks it to the Lisbon fanatics and their lobbyists (who need not declare their interest).

Dan Hannan refers to Declan Ganley's article and adds a few very salient points.

Der Spiegel reports that the Czechs sent a 60-page complaint to their constitutional court - as did Germany - which could delay ratification for up to 6 months. If the Irish vote No, the Czechs will refuse to ratify the treaty.

As the Telegraph reports, although an ICM poll found 70% of the British want a referendum on the treaty, regardless of whether it is ratified, Cameron refuses to budge - he continues with his ridiculous stance that he "would not let matters rest there". In effect, he's asking the voting public for a blank cheque - just like the proponents of the Lisbon Treaty are asking of member states. Not good enough, Cameron.

If Cameron doesn't give a cast iron pledge to give us a referendum on the Treaty, regardless of its ratification status, voters should turn their backs on Lib/Lab/Con and vote instead for LPUK, UKIP, EngDem, the Jury Team or independents.

The status quo simply won't do.

Update:

It beggars belief that despite Bill Emmott's misgivings about the Lisbon Treaty and the anti-democratic practices it will herald in, that he cites mere boredom and embarrassment as sufficient reason to give up this country's independence and liberties.

Emmott says:

"Personally, I still don’t like the treaty, as it represents a huge missed opportunity to modernise the EU, and, more technically, offers too many opportunities to the European Court of Justice to add to federal powers in future."
Does he believe that we'll ever have another opportunity to do so, once this treaty has been ratified? If so, he is quite mistaken. Post-ratification, our opinions simply will not matter, because our votes will count for nothing. We will have entered a post-democratic age.

And Emmott is willing to allow this to happen because he's bored with Lisbon and embarrassed by the wrangling?

What a pushover he is! Where are his principles?

The very reason that a "handful" of people (Irish) get to decide the fate of the treaty is that the rest of us - about half a billion people - were not given an opportunity to do so, despite the fact that this treaty makes major constitutional changes and passes power over our future to other nations.

I'd call that treason.

The unelected EU Commission should be sent back to the drawing board. This treaty should be dumped.

It is an affront to the people of Europe and a cushy number for the power elites - its true beneficiaries.

Update:

You might want to help the NO side by posting your opinion here. The Yes fanatics have power and money on their side. We have just our voices. Let's get them heard!
