Cameron wears eurosceptic clothes

After yesterday's revelations that Cameron would not offer us a referendum, and his feeble offer to repatriate powers, I do not see how anyone can seriously believe that he's eurosceptic.

How can he meekly accept ratification of a treaty which ends this country's rich history, when he can refuse to be bound by the previous government's commitments?

He cannot repatriate powers without the agreement of every single member of the EU - and that simply will not happen once the tready is signed, as Simon Heffer so ably explains at the Bruges Group fringe meeting during Conservative Party conference week.

Update:

Bill Cash has called for a full referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, as we were promised.

Some argue that because the Lisbon Treaty will become part of the Treaty of Rome, unpicking it without withdrawal from the EU would be impossible.

Surely, Cameron can simply withdraw ratification?  After all,in constitutional law, "one Parliament shall not bind another".

Given that this treaty makes constitutional changes and passes sovereignty to another power without having gained the permission of the people, withdrawing ratification seems very doable to me.

Assuming, of course, there is a will within CCHQ.

Update:

Barry Legg (Bruges Group) attacks Cameron's latest, wet promises on the EU, thus:
“What is the point in David Cameron upending one pledge on Europe, but promising he’ll offer us yet more European promises in his general election manifesto? Why will they be any more credible than the ‘cast-iron guarantee’ he has just broken?

“How can David Cameron claim he’ll fight to repatriate powers from Brussels when he won’t even fight to implement his own past words?
That's what many of us will be thinking as we cast our votes for UKIP. Let us remind ourselves that Cameron gave us a "cast-iron guarantee" in September 2007:
The final reason we must have a vote is trust. Gordon Brown talks about “new” politics. But there’s nothing “new” about breaking your promises to the British public. It’s classic Labour. And it is the cancer that is eating away at trust in politics. Small wonder that so many people don’t believe a word politicians ever say if they break their promises so casually. If you really want to signal you’re a break from the past, Prime Minister, do the right thing – give the people the referendum you promised.

Today, I will give this cast-iron guarantee: If I become PM a Conservative government will hold a referendum on any EU treaty that emerges from these negotiations. No treaty should be ratified without consulting the British people in a referendum.

Trust, Mr Cameron? I believe you've just lost the trust of millions of people.

Heffer is quite right, having sold the pass at Lisbon. asking the EU for permission to tinker with the new constitution is simply not good enough. The only way forward is Our Referendum to use the new mechanism whereby an EU member can withdraw ( before they withdraw that, anyone know how it works ? ) and then negotiate a trade agreement similar to that which does Norway and Switzerland perfectly well.

As a newbie i was looking for some kinda of info. So, I found this interesting blog. I want to come here again again.

The Czech courts have dismissed the appeal against ratification, so the treaty will now go ahead. Cameron does seem to have lost some street cred on this one. Like the new blog, BTW.

We're sleepwalking into obscurity and all we've got to look forward to is "Blue", instead of New Labour. is there anybody out there that views Cameron with anything better than complete indifference?

These politicians are now so far out of touch with reality, they just haven't got a clue anymore, of what their own damned people think. Most of them have never had a proper job, and the only people that they come into contact with on a regular basis are sycophants, media luvvies, and core supporters that opine what they want to hear, and when they want to hear it.

Still, they've always got the police to protect them when we've all finally had enough.....New Labour have worked most diligently on that little point of order to protect themselves from their peoples.

Ditto, BS. Cameron has lost credibility - his euroscepticism evidently non-existant.

Banned, Cameron will never give us an in/out referendum. This has always been an option (since he won the CP leadership contest, on a false premise) but he's always rejected it.

We can repeal the Treaty of Rome and the European Communities Act and then renegotiate a new treaty on common markets. Better still, just enter into free trade - no treaties required. If EU countries won't buy our goods and services, we'll be free to source imports from elsewhere, so give and take would be in member states' interests.

Welcome nintendo and cookiemouse - and thanks for the thumbs-up. The Czechs have put in train another complaint, which will buy us another week. Perhaps they have more complaints lined up. I'm pessimistic that they'll be able to delay ratification beyond June 2010, though.

D&C, I'm reminded of this video. Our main parties have been hijacked by the treasonous, anti-democratic sort, in love with power.

Yes, they have protected themselves from retribution and the Lisbon Treaty codifies this. We can't try them for treason while a member of the EU.

If you're truly Eurosceptic you'll wish to leave the EU. Until the Tories say this, they're no different from Labour & Lib Dems on this issue.

I do with to leave the EU, Prole. That's why I'm voting UKIP.

Since it is very likely that Cameron will be PM, I would prefer him to make altogether more eurosceptic promises that can withstand scrutiny.
