Now the EU wants to regulate our food

Codex Alimentarius has arrived, courtesy of the EUSSR.

Just as the US brings in its "Food Safety" bill, so the EUSSR brings in its herbal supplements directive, which takes effect on 1st May 2011.

Time to grow our own - until that right is denied us by the EU, WHO, UN and Big Pharma.

Please sign the petition and lobby your MPs, before it becomes a criminal offense to heal yourself, without the EU's permission.

What is Codex Alimentarius and why should we be alarmed?

It infuriates me that the Pharmaceutical Cartel is able to control our governments to such a degree.

Breathtakinly, Trestin.

And Happy New Year to you too, Captain. And everyone!

Divine Theatre, what do we do about it?

We HAVE to become active on this issue or we will be sunk!

I fail to see the concern here?

Codex has been around, ensuring food safety, since the sixties.

It's the crazy pretend science of the supplement industry that's using you here.

They're under the impression that it's ok to sell products with no understanding of the safety risk they may pose.

On top of that they want to be able to continue selling products with no evidence (other than unreliable anecdotal) that they are effective.

They're manipulating people to campaign on their behalf in order to protect their profits. The supplement industry is worth millions every year.

Scottie, you fail to grasp the concept of self ownership...first and foremost. Are you responsible for what you put into your body or do you belong to the State?
Second, this not only affects the "supplement industry' but organic farmers, people who grow their own food and those who supply them with the means to do so.
I will assume that you also support the Drug War, although more have died from the war itself than drugs alone, although the war increases crime, violent and otherwise?
I live in the US, so at least we still have our guns :) It's difficult for the state to grab at the rights of armed individuals!
Fausty, insofar as what could be done here in the US, I suggest we rid ourselves of the unconstitutional 17th amendment which allows for election of the senate by the general populace. Not only did that sole amendment change the US from a Republic to a Democracy, but it allowed for the direct influence of lobbyists on the legislating body.

Divine Theatre, you've nailed it. As with so much that our governments do, their intentions are masked.

For the cheeeldren
For our securiteee
For the most vulnerable in our societieee
For our economeee

Never do they come straight out and tell us that they are screwing us for corporate interests (usually run by their buddies) who are plying them with backhanders.

Our politics is paid for. We are little more than collateral for government debt.

I so agree about the 2nd chamber. Our corrupt politicos are trying to change ours (the House of Lords) to an elected chamber.
