Quote of the day: Abraham Lincoln

"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. . . . corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed."
— Abraham Lincoln

Sir:

Lincoln, more than any other president in American history, made possible the Corporatist Leviathan state that confronts us in our day. This quote, similar to his Gettysburg address, is full of irony because of his own actions. He centralized power, made the voluntary union of states into an involuntary union, all at the point of the bayonet.

Feel free to peruse my blog; I am an american supporter of UKIP. One of my posts takes MEP Dan Hannan to task for listing Lincoln as one of the top 3 presidents of US history. That ranking all depends on how much you value personal freedom.

Thanks for that, HonourableMeans. Still, the words ring true.
